"Besides my love for chocolate, I was drawn to this project as a way to
support sustainable agriculture," states Nell. "Growing the cacao in the
ancient way meant that no rainforests would need to be destroyed. We can
encourage this method by supporting the farmers economically." The organic
cacao comes from small farmers in the Talamanca region on the Atlantic
coast of Costa Rica. Some of these farms provide important buffer zones
for the La Amistad Biosphere Reserve, a habitat for endangered mammal
and bird species. The organic sugar is from Mexico and Paraguay,
the organic milk powder is from Horizon Organics® in Colorado,
and the organic vanilla is from Madagascar.
The chocolate bars are available in two sizes: 2.8-ounce bars and
l.2-ounce bars. Both are available in:
- Milk Chocolate
- Sweet Dark Chocolate
- Butter Toffee Crunch
- Milk Chocolate Crisp Rice
- Sweet Dark Chocolate Orange
- Sweet Dark Chocolate Espresso
NOTE: These products are produced
on shared equipment that also produces products that incorporate peanuts,
other nuts and powdered milk.

Note*
We source our organic chocolate from producers in Central and South America.
Issues surrounding forced labor are primarily centered on cocoa farms
in West Africa, principally on the Ivory Coast. Our producers take measures
to certify that all of the cocoa they purchase is produced without the
use of forced labor.
Our group of cooperatives are inspected
to verify compliance with organic standards. They require written verification
from the inspector that each farm is "slavery-free".
