Mulling over a name for daughter Nell's
new line of fig cookies, Paul Newman suddenly smiled and said "Let's call
them Fig Newmans™." With Nells recipe and Paul's inspiration, the first
fig bar made with organic figs, organic sugar, organic flour, and without
hydrogenated oils was created. The new cookie wouldn't have come to fruition
without the cooperation of Kraft, as the name is being used under license
from them. "We really salute Kraft for all their help with our Fig Newmans™,"
states Paul Newman. "People loved the name, but without Kraft's consent
we never could have created this product." continues Nell.
Nell has wanted to do a fig cookie for a long time. "Mom loves figs,
so I grew up eating and enjoying them, and Dad has always been a big Fig
Newton fan," says Nell. "When we were doing research on figs we found
that there are a number of organic fig growers in California, but the
supply exceeded the demand. We are delighted to be able to support these
growers with our product."
Fig Newmans™ are available in:
A few more calories from organic palm shortening, but :
We found that the palm fruit oil was so good in our Champion Chip Cookies that we added it to our Fig Newmans™ along with a hint of natural lemon flavor. Fig Newmans™ are available anywhere natural foods are sold. All varieties
come in 12-ounce packages which are easily recognized by the division's
eye-catching packaging, featuring an American Gothic "Pa" Newman and daughter
Nell, and an accompanying tongue-in-cheek legend. Paul Newman has given over $200 million to thousands of charities worldwide since 1982. Like our other products, Fig Newman's are certified organic
by Oregon Tilth.
