When organic peanut butter meets
organic chocolate the results are Newman's Own Organics Peanut Butter
Cups. Nell Newman, a confirmed chocoholic, can't go too long without
dreaming up a new use for the company's luscious organic chocolate.
The peanut butter cups with three cups per 1.2 ounce package come
in two varieties, Dark Chocolate and Milk Chocolate. There is also
a rich Caramel cup in both Dark Chocolate and Milk Chocolate and a
delicious Dark Chocolate Peppermint Cup rounding out the selection.
"I couldn't resist recreating a favorite childhood treat.
Our cups have a wonderfully creamy, melt-in-your mouth texture,"
says Nell. We focus on the kinds of products we loved as kids.
We take them one step further by using the highest quality of
available organic ingredients. The peanuts are certified
organic Valencia peanuts cultivated in New Mexico. The peanuts
are roasted with the skin and germ left in, then dry roasted and
milled in a certified, traditional peanut mill. The organic peppermint
oil for the mint cups is distilled from the leaves of the native
American mentha pipertita shrub.
All the division's chocolate products are made from organic cacao
that comes from small farmers in the Talamanca region on the Atlantic
coast of Costa Rica. Some of these farms provide important buffer
zones for the La Amistad Biosphere Reserve, a habitat for endangered
mammal and bird species.“Growing the cacao in the ancient way means that no rainforests need be destroyed”, says Nell. "We
encourage this method by supporting the farmers economically.
So rationalize some of those calories by remembering that the
chocolate cup you eat is helping the environment both in the U.S.
and in Central America."
The American Gothic logo of Nell and "Pa" Newman that
highlights all the products is on the front of the color-banded
packages. Paul Newman has given over $200 million to thousands of charities worldwide since 1982.
